EIGHTH ANNUAL C.A.T.S. Victory for Victims 5k/10k
Phidippides has been a sponsor of the CATS Victory for Victims race since the debut race in 2002. The Center for Assault Treatment Services (CATS) at Northridge Hospital Medical Center is the only 24/7 program for victims of sexual assault and abuse in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys with 2.1 million residents. CATS provides medical evidentiary exams, forensic interviews, case management and referrals to victims of all ages. CATS’ services help victims begin the recovery and healing process. It's a great program that fills a very important role in our community. In today's tight economy we in the community need to get out and support local agencies that serve needs that the public sector cannot fill. So please join is again this year for a great race, a great community event, a great way to start your Sunday with your family! Come out and run it, walk it, stroll it!

And for the first time this year the course will go through the newly opened 28 acre Bull Creek restoration project area in the northwest quadrant of Balboa Park. The project was a $5.2 million dollar effort to restore the natural ecosystem of Bull Creek (not restored up by my house where it's in a concrete box...). The area was opened to the public in May of 2009, and this year, we will get to run through the area with its native plants, over several bridges across the Bull Creek channel, and check out a wide variety of migratory and local birdlife, both large and small.
